Manchester City vs Real Madrid

This match-up will feature some of the best talent in the football world, which should mean great entertainment for those of you watching. The Spanish giants defeated Mancini's men in the reverse encounter and are travelling to England in order to secure their progress to the knock-out stage of the competition.
This should be special for Mourinho, as he will be on the bench for the 100th time in UCL - a feat that no one managed at such a young age.
City are last in the group with just two draws from four games which means that it will take a miracle for them to qualify.
Do expect free flowing football tonight and counterattack masterclass, in a game that will easily see 3+ goals.

Anzhi vs Liverpool

Anzhi are the new force in Rusia, having got enough financial muscle to name Guus Hiddink as manager and bring in big-names such as Samuel Etoó, Lass Diarra or Christopher Samba. They are top of the domestic league and have managed 14 wins out of 15 at home.
Liverpool on the other hand do have a rather mediocre start of the season. They just can't put up together 2-3 consecutive wins. That is a result of the numerous moves in and out of the club and the bad management that has hindered the legendary team in the last seasons.
Even though Liverpool did win 1-0 at home in a quite tight game, I will put my money on Anzhi today because of the sheer passion that this team is putting in the game of football. And Hiddink is no stranger to this approach.

Manchester City 2:2 Ajax

Manchester City vs Ajax Amsterdam

Manchester City entertains Dutch champ pups Ajax in the fourth day of the 2012-2013 UCL season. The English champions seem to be already ousted of the competition as their only hope relies on winning 3 from 3 of the remaining matches.  Even though that could be not enough.
Mancini's troops were among the favourites at the start of the competition, but after a string of bad luck, poor concentration and even ignorance at some point, they find themselves with only a point after 3 games.  It's true that they've travelled to Madrid for the first game, but then they were outplayed at home by Dortmund and only equalised in the last few minutes of the encounter.  At Ajax they took the lead but them came half an hour of disastrous defending which saw them conceding three times without scoring. And as many journalists reckon this was the end of the road for the Citizens in this year's UCL.
The Dutch find themselves in a good position before tonight's game. A probable win will bring them in contention for qualifying with Dortmund coming to the Netherlands in the coming weeks. Coach Frank de Boer dos a good job last term and Ajax is doing well this season too. But it will be as difficult as it gets for them tonight in front of one hurt "animal", like the Sky Blues.
I do tp the home side to nick it, at odds around 5/11.

Sportul 2:3 Timisoara
Sportul vs Poli Timisoara
Romanian Liga I, 16h00
The last placed team entertains the 2nd placed. Sportul managed only 4 wins this season. They are so leaky in defense that you expect they will concede 3 goals every day.
Timisoara must keep up with the leaders which means they have to win this. An organised and focused team will never lose at Sportul.
I tip the guests to win, at 3/5.
Bayern 2:3 Inter

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

Bayern Munich vs Internazionale
Uefa Champions League, 20h45
Bayern have revenge to take on Inter. The Bavarian giants lost last year's Final of this huge competition against the same opponents, 2-0 in Madrid. Since then, Mourinho has left Inter and took over Real Madrid and Bayern have won the first leg of this tie 1-0 in Milan after a very good game of football.
Louis van Gaal will leave Bayern in June, but will want to do it on a high, whereas for Leonardo this is a first time experience as a coach.
I do believe the German outfit's firepower will tear Inter apart. Robben, Ribery and Gomez will be too much for the Leonardo's defence to cope with.
I tip Bayern to go through, at 3/5.
Olympique Lyonnais 1:1 Real Madrid

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

Olympique Lyon vs Real Madrid
Uefa Champions League 1st Knock-out stage 1st leg, 20h45
Real Madrid has been ousted three times by Lyon in the last 5 years in the UCL. The French outfit have a great record of three wins and three draws against tonight's opponents. Real Madrid has not progressed beyond this stage of the competition for six years now.
But Mourinho has a good record against Lyon and a very good season at Real Madrid. Expect Real to attack as The Special One said his teams will always try to win the first leg in a knock-out competition. That's his approach and he won the Uefa Champions League with Porto and Inter, so he must be convincing enough.
Lisandro Lopez is not available for the hosts.
I tip Real Madrid to win tonight at 9/10.
Chelsea 0:1 Liverpool

Sunday, February 06, 2011

Chelsea vs Liverpool
English Premier League, 17h00
Chelsea and Liverpool were the clubs that made the biggest transfer deal in January. Fernando Torres moved to Stamford Bridge for 50M Brittish pounds, a fee that dwarfed the British record in transfer fees. Liverpool  bought Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll instead. The last one won't play today because of injury.
Torres left Liverpool because he thought the club is underachieving and he personally will have a better chance to win trophies with the Blues. Chelsea also brought in talented centre-back David Luiz.
With Arsenal and Manchester United losing points on Saturday, Chelsea can put pressure on the title contenders with a very possible win here. Drogba, Lampard and John Terry are all fit and raring to go.
I tip Chelsea to win, at 7/10.
Juventus 1:2 Udinese

Sunday, January 30, 2011

Juventus vs Udinese
Italian Serie A, 20h45
Juventus have had a mediocre season. They never looked like title contenders and that is due to long spells of inconsistency. The Italian giants are having great troubles because of injuries and today they are facing Italy's most spectacular outfit, Udinese.
Udinese has managed a great game at San Siro, drawing 4-4 with AC Milan and also destroyed Inter 3-1 at Friuli just a week ago. Watch out for Alexis Sanchez and top scorer Di Natale.
I tip Udinese to win this game, at 2/1.

Espanyol vs Barcelona
Spanish Primera Division, 20h00
Tonight is a special night in Catalunia. The City of Gaudi is divided between "los pericos" and "los cules".
One cannot find a better time for these two sides to clash horns. Espanyol are having their best start of the season in years, with 7 out of 7 home wins. Coach Pochettino has really made it hard for Barcelona every time they met.
Barcelona have won 7 out of 7 away games and have not conceded in the last 6 games scoring 26 goals while conceding none. But the head to head record is as neutral as it can be with Barcelona winning 3 and Espanyol 2 of the last ten clashes between them.
I tip Espanyol not to lose this clash, at 7/2.
Stoke 1:1 Manchester City

Saturday, November 27, 2010

Rapid 3:0 "U" Cluj
Stoke vs Manchester City
English Premier League, 16h00
It has been more than 30 games since City haven't lost when Tevez scored. Mancini also got this team on the right track. The Sky Blues have kept 7 clean sheets this season, second only to Chelsea's eight. Balotelli is back after suspension.
Stoke have got their season back on track after a poor start. They are the worst team if you count only the first half performances, but also the joint first in the second.
I do tip City to win this one, at 6/5.

Friday, November 19, 2010

Rapid vs "U" Cluj-Napoca
Romanian Liga I, 19h30
Rapid is 3rd in the standings but went through a horrible form recently. They did not manage to win in the last 4 games, losing twice in the process. That came after a great start of the season. But that is just common for this side. The match will be played without spectators due to a penalty thrown at the home side.
"U" Cluj will be at full strength tonight and has always played good football against sides from the upper half of the standings, losing just to Steaua in the process. Do expect lots of goals tonight.
I tip "U" Cluj to score anytime during the game, at 7/10.

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

Real Madrid 2:0 Atletico Madrid
England vs France
International Friendly, 21h00
This will be a clash between two big powers of International football. Still, after a woeful World Cup in which both were dispatched home in the early stages, England and France seek a rebuilding of their respective squads. The Three Lions confide in the same man Capello do to the job, while les Bleus have appointed Laurent Blanc in charge.
Both teams will be full of youngsters which are trying to establish themselves at International level. Carroll and Henderson are the ones to watch for the Brits, while M'Vila and Rami.
I can feel a more determined French side and that said the odds are higher than I think they should be.
So, I back up France not to lose, at 3/5.

Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid
Spanish Primera Division, 21h00
This is the Madrid derby. It is now most important for Atletico, because they are the ones who will try to prove something. Atletico have managed to win away in the Europa League on Thursday which is a big boost of confidence. They will also have Forlan and Aguero up front, which means chances to score.
Real Madrid boast the best defence and attack force in La Liga. Mourinho is the best manager if you ask me and Cristiano Ronaldo is the best footballer in the world in my opinion. But, :)
I tip Atletico to score anytime tonight, at 4/5.

Universitatea Craiova vs "U" Cluj
Romanian Liga I, 17h30
These teams are two of the better supported sides in Romania. Universitatea Craiova represents a region with very passionate people and has been the proudness of its fans. "U" Cluj is the most popular team in almost 1/3 of Romania. Both have something in common. They've started a resurgence in seek of performance that has eluded both for some decades.
The hosts have put Piturca in charge, who coached the national team at Euro 2008. He is a very respected manager in Romania, having also been a very good footballer. He has brought fresh air to a youthful team that was underachieving, having won just 2 points in 4 games before his arrival. With Piturca on the bench they've managed 2 wins, a loss and a draw against the second placed team, Rapid.
"U" Cluj have promoted this summer after almost a decade of lower league football and have great ambitions. The guests have started very well, positioned in 8th spot after 9 games with 14 points. They've beaten Dinamo Bucharest away, as well as last season's runners up. They have also drawn with the reigning champions and also against Vaslui, both 1-1; while beating the current leaders.
Claudiu Niculescu is the main striking power, at 34. He scored 6, but has a total of 145 goals in the Romanian First Division, which is the 2nd highest at the moment behind ex-teammate and good friend Danciulescu. Niculescu has great respect for the opposite coach, while the latter has said that they will take every measure needed in order to keep the striker at bay. Piturca said "U" Cluj is a team that can always score 3 times in a game.I have to mention the fact the "U" has scored in every single game this season.
I tip "U" Cluj to score at least once today, at 1/2.
Manchester City 1:1 Juventus

Manchester City vs Juventus
Uefa Europa League, 21h05
Juventus have a mediocre start of the season, condimented with a couple of thumpings (4-0 at Udinese and 4-2 at home to Cagliari). The bianconeri are really scoring for fun under new coach Del Neri, but also tend to concede a lot of goals (see consecutive 3-3 results against Sampdoria and Lech Poznan and a 1-3 loss to Palermo, all at home). They changed a lot of personel during the summer, bringing in Bonucci, Pepe, Quagliarella, Aquilani or Krasic (all at huge costs) and selling the likes of Diego, Camoranesi, Trezeguet, Giovinco or Poulsen. Having in mind the injury suffered by Buffon, they have brought in Storari from Milan, whose play was bad to this moment in the season. Expect him to concede a couple tonight.
Manchester City have had a big test at the weekend, beating free-scoring Chelsea, 1-0. Mancini imposed a defensive approach and it was the way to win against the Blues. City have had another busy summer, bringing in players for huge sums of money, like David Silva, Kolarov, Jerome Boateng, James Milner, Balotelli, Adam Johnson or Yaya Toure. The Sky Blues are on a high and I think Mancini will drive them to UCL qualification come next summer. They've won their previous game in this competition, away at Salzburg
I tip City to win, at 2/3.

Saturday, September 25, 2010

Athletic Bilbao vs Barcelona
Spanish Primera Division, 22h00
The Basques have a good start of the campaign, just 2 points behind their opponents. Bilbao have always had been so powerful at home, that Barca will find it again so difficult in San Mames.
Messi is injured, while Puyol is doubtful.
I tip Athletic not to lose this one, at evens.

Friday, September 10, 2010

Everton vs Manchester United
English Premier League, Saturday 13h45
The club football is back after the international fixtures and I am picking an intriguing encounter to analyze. Everton take on Manchester United at Goodison Park and the stats are not on the hosts side. Everton has only one point from 3 games compared to United's seven. Everton are used to getting off to poor start of the season. The last couple of season's it was the same old story for them, having to get back in the pack. The good news for David Moyes is the fact that he has his three better players injury-free and we will enjoy watching Tim Cahill,  Mikel Arteta and Steven Pienaar battling out with Sir Alex Ferguson's troops.
Last year's corresponding feature finished 3-1 for the hosts. United will have had more players on international duty and maybe that will be a disadvantage. Rio Ferdinand, Hargreaves and Anderson will miss out, while Rooney was doubtful but will play following the press scandal he was involved in last week.
I tip Everton not to lose this tie, at 4/5.

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

Saturday, August 28, 2010

Blackburn vs Arsenal
Premier League, 13h45
Arsenal are looking for an away win since March. The good news for the Gunners is that Fabregas and Van Persie could feature after injuries that prevented them to play 90 minutes in the previous games.
Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce has not lost to Wenger at home. He managed 4 wins and 3 draws in the past while coaching Bolton, Newcastle and Rovers. A win for the hosts would mean their 1000th top flight victory.
I tip Blackburn not to lose, at 11/10.

Thursday, August 26, 2010

Lille vs Vaslui
Uefa Europa League Play-Off, 20h45
It will be a difficult task for Lille tonight, as they were kept quiet a week ago in Romania. It was a goalless draw in the 1st leg and I believe Vaslui are to be taken seriously. The Romanian team has a decent coach and very good athleticism which will pose the hosts some threat. The technique of the visitors is above average as they include two of the best players in Romania, Sanmartean and Wesley.
Lille drawed 3 matches out of 3 in Le Championat scoring only once in the process, while Vaslui managed only 5 points from a possible 15. These are quite low performances for two teams that must be challenging for the title.
I tip Vaslui not to lose in 90 minutes, at a huge 6/5.

Thursday, August 19, 2010

Vaslui vs Lille
Europa League Play-Off, 19h00
Lille have finished 4th last season in France, just outside the UCL spots, which should have been heartbreaking. They managed to keep hold of their most important men, Gervinho and Eden Hazard. They are wanted by clubs in England and Spain.
Vaslui finished 3rd in Romania last season and have also been finalists of the domestic Cup. They appointed ex Real Madrid and Spain U21 caretaker Lopez Caro as coach and brought in a number of players to force a push for the title this season. Among them are Spanish centre-back David Rivas and Brazilian forward Adailton. Also, they do have good players like Gladstone and Wesley, while you should watch for the likes of Papp & Sanmartean .
I tip Vaslui not to lose tonight, at 2/3.
Werder 3:1 Sampdoria

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Werder Bremen vs Sampdoria
Uefa Champions League Play-Off, 20h45
This should be the most mouth-watering tie of this stage of the competition, as two big clubs from football history battle it out for a place in the UCL group stage. Both teams played Uefa Cup Finals in the 90's, but Werder has played in the UCL recently and should have the experience on their side. It should be also mentioned that Werder were finalists in the last Uefa Cup, in 2009.
Sampdoria lost their coach this summer, who signed for Juventus. The Bluecerchiati finished 4th in Serie A with main striker Gianpaolo Pazzini summing up 19 goals.
Werder has just lost Mesut Oezil to Real Madrid, but will have Aaron Hunt to throw in the battle instead. Otherwise the team has a great goalscorer in the Peruvian Pizzaro, helped by a attacking minded formation. Watch also for Hugo Almeida and Marko Marin. Brazilian centre-back Naldo is the only major absentee.
I tip Werder to win it, at 2/3.
Zenit 1:0 Auxerre

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

Zenit vs Auxerre
Uefa Champions League Play-Off, 20h45
Auxerre managed to take 3rd place in Le Championnat at the photo-finish against Lille. That was a big feat for the team that has a history in the 90's Uefa Cup, but since then have been quite mediocre in the domestic league, finishing each season mostly just above the relegation zone. Coach Jean Fernandez did not make significant changes to last season's squad. Auxerre started the season with two draws.
Zenit are half-way across the Russian league, leading the tables and still being undefeated in 16 games. In the previous round of the UCL they defeated Unirea Urziceni, 1-0 on aggregate. The financial status of the home side is so very powerful, that they've recently added Bruno Alves to their squad. Coach Luciano Spaletti can count on a string of quality players like Bystrov, Anyukov, Malafeev, Rosina and Danny.
I tip Zenit to win this game, at 6/11.

Netherlands vs Uruguay

World Cup Semifinal, 20h30
Both teams had a very good tournament so far. The Netherlands have won all their games in the competition. Coach Bert van Marwijk assembled a team that is feared by everyone. They managed to come from behind and beat Brasil by 2-1 in the Quarterfinal stage. That proved the hunger for success that one can find in the Oranje camp. With a win tonight, it will be their first World Cup Final since 1978. That team is said to be one of the best in football, lead by the great Johan Crujff.
Watch for the likes of Robben, Snejder and van Persie.
Uruguay have their self a pedigree in this competition. They've won it twice and played another final, but all of those achievements came early in football history.
They won the WC in 1930 and 1950. The Final they lost was back in 1970.
Qualifying to the Semifinal stage came at a huge price. They've lost Luis Suarez through suspension. He handled the ball which was going into the net in the dying seconds of the game against Ghana. The opponents eventualy missed the penalty. Suarez and Forlan are the best assets this team posesses. That's why I think tonight the Netherlands will keep the attacking threat posed by Uruguay at bay.
I tip the Netherlands to progress to the Final, at 5/11.

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

Brazil 3:0 Chile
Paraguay vs Japan
World Cup, 16h00
Paraguay is a well balanced team. The South Americans have a good midfield and attack and also a great defence. They will be solid today, as they were for the whole tournament.
Japan produced a good display to dispatch Denmark home, but I think South American teams are better than Asian ones.
I tip Paraguay to qualify, at 7/10.

Monday, June 28, 2010

Brazil vs Chile
World Cup, 20h30
It is the first showdown between South American countries at this summer's competition. Uruguay was the first side from South America other than Argentina and Brazil to reach the knock-out stages of the competition after Peru did it back in 1978. This year all five of that continent's teams went through from the group stages. That is a huge feat.
Chile finished second, just behind Brazil in the qualifiers. They also had 2 good games at this WC. In the third, their were  beaten 2-1 by Spain, easier than the scoreline says. Watch out for Alexis Sanchez.
Brazil are one of the favourites of the competition. They beat North Korea and Ivory Coast and drew 0-0 with Portugal. Kaka will be back in the line-up after service a one-match suspension.
I tip Brazil to beat Chile, at 1/2.

Saturday, June 26, 2010

Uruguay 2:1 South Korea
Uruguay vs South Korea
World Cup, 16h00
Uruguay has qualified with great difficulty at this competition, winning a play-off. But in the group stage they proved great, since they did not concede a goal. They do have a great duo up front, composed by two of Europe's top-goalscorers Diego Forlan and Luis Suarez.
South Korea was good in their group, but I think they will go down today. They beat Greece and drew with Nigeria, but lost 4-1 to Argentina.
I tip Uruguay to go through, at 3/5.

Thursday, June 24, 2010

Germany 1:0 Ghana
England 1:0 Slovenia
Australia 2:1 Serbia

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

Ghana vs Germany
World Cup, 20h30
Germany find themselves in a very delicate position. They need to win in order to qualify. They have never failed to progress from the group stages of the World Cup. Also, after the first game, 4-0 against Australia, they were tipped as potential winners of the competition. The match against Serbia showed us another German team which saw Podolski play for himself, also missing from the penalty spot and Klose being on the receiving end of a red card which rules him out of this decisive game.
Ghana were superb against Serbia, but faltered against Australia. They are called the Black Stars as well as Africa's Brazilians. Even though they have lots of chances, they scored both goals from the penalty spot. They only need a draw tonight and if they were to qualify they should be the only African team left in the competition.
I tip Ghana not to lose, at 11/10.
Serbia vs Australia
World Cup, 20h30
I saw the Serbians against Germany. They were very solid and eventually won by 1-0. They need a win in order to progress, even though a draw could also get them through.
Also, Australia produced a good display against Ghana after they were mauled 4-0 by the Germans. I cannot predict which side will show up today.
I tip Serbia will win, at 9/11.
England vs Slovenia
World Cup, 16h00
This is make or break time for England. This is a team I expect to win the tournament. But they were poor in the first 2 games, drawing against USA and Algeria. Slovenia is a decent team, they look well organised. But in the match against the USA they showed us both their facets: a pragmatic first half which saw them 2-0 up and a very poor second half in which they were left happy to escape from losing the game.
England must turn on the big engines and run through Slovenia. This is simply what should happen. Expect for the likes of Lampard, Gerrard and Rooney to provide the determination and passion they are renowned for.
I tip England to win, at 5/11.
Mexico 0:1 Uruguay

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

Mexico vs Uruguay
These two teams have played well in the first two games, both winning a game and drawing the other. Uruguay have one goal advantage on the Mexicans, still I do believe these two will qualify together, after drawing this one. It is common sense that the players will go for safety today. A draw will all but guarantee that both nations will progress to the knock-out stages of the competition.
Mexico have been great against France beating them 2-0, while Uruguay thumped hosts South Africa 3-0 in the second round of games of this group. The second-placed team will most probably play Argentina in the next round.
I predict a draw in this game, with values as high as 4/5.
Brazil 3:1 Ivory Coast

Sunday, June 20, 2010

Brazil vs Ivory Coast
World Cup, 20h30
Didier Drogba was the hottest subject prior to the game. The Ivorian captain has a broken arm and the Brazilian wanted Fifa not to allow him play. But football's governing body had a different opinion, which I think is only fair.
I saw Brazil beat North Korea 2-1. They were pretty average to me. Ivory Coast themselves did not catch the eye of the football passionate, but had a decent game in the 0-0 draw against Portugal, having control for most of the time and being the side that wanted the win more. This is probably the toughest group in this competition, so do expect a grinding performance by both sides tonight.
I tip Ivory Coast not to lose tonight, at evens.
Ghana 1:1 Australia

Saturday, June 19, 2010

Ghana vs Australia
World Cup, 16h00
This is a wide open group, the one that includes these two nations. Serbia, Germany and Ghana have all won a game. But the Africans have done that in a game, while the other two have already suffered a defeat.
Australia have no points; they were thumped by the Germans 4-0 in the opening game of the group. They were so poor. You also have to consider Tim Cahill, arguably their best player, is suspended for this match.
I've seen Ghana against Serbia. They had glimpses of brilliance and were always attacked minded. They managed to win that game 1-0, but fully deserved the result.
I tip Ghana to win today, at 11/10.

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

Honduras 0:1 Chile
Honduras vs Chile
World Cup, 13h30
These two play in the same group as Spain, and they will seek to win second place in order to qualify. But first, they both need a win today.
I've seen play Honduras play Romania and lose 3-0. They were simply not good enough. Meanwhile Chile have come through the tough South American qualifying section which is so tough. They also have good pedigree at World Cups and a good Argentine coach.
I tip Chile to win, at 2/3.

Thursday, May 20, 2010

I am delighted to share the information on my success rate on this blog.
That is a whopping 72.53%.
Sevilla 2:0 Atletico

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

Sevilla vs Atletico Madrid
Spanish Copa del Rey, 21h30
Both teams are very offensive minded. And their mind is set to "hurt" the opponent as much as possible, that is why they do score often. Atletico recently won the Europa League, while Sevilla clinched the 4th spot in the Primera Division in the last seconds of the last game. Both by scoring.
Sevilla got to the final by defeating Barcelona, and doing it at the Camp Nou, tonight's venue.
Atletico will put Aguero and Forlan up front, while Sevilla will respond with Negredo and Kanoute flanked by Jesus Navas, Perrotti or Capel.
I tip both teams to score, at 7/10.

Monday, May 10, 2010

Sevilla 2:3 Barcelona
Vaslui vs Steaua
Romanian Liga I, 19h00
Steaua and Vaslui are chasing for a spot in Europe next season, maybe even in the UCL with a bit of luck. The hosts are 4th while the guests stand on 5th.
It will be a tight affair tonight, but Vaslui have better quality in their squad and I think Lacatus' side will win it.
Wesley and Costly are out for the hosts.
I tip Vaslui to win it, at 13/10.

Saturday, May 08, 2010

Sevilla vs Barcelona
Spanish Primera Division, 21h00
Sevilla is battling for the last UCL qualifying spot, while Barcelona tries to stay first. The Catalans have one point in front of Realmadrid and travel to a place which is not the best for them. Barcelona have lost the Champions Cup Final there in 14 years ago.
In the last 10 meetings between these two, Sevilla won 2, Barca 5 with 3 matches ending in a draw.
Luis Fabiano is fit to play tonight and Navas will supply him and Kanoute with great crosses. For the guests Ibra is missing from the first eleven, as he is replaced by Bojan, with Messi and Pedro summing up the front line.
I tip Sevilla to resist tonight, with values as high as 6/5 up for grabs.

Manchester City vs Tottenham
English Premier League, 21h00
It is the showdown for the last place that puts you in the UCL. That means huge cash. Tottenham have a one point advantage over their opponents and could do with a point.
Still, Spurs have beaten City in 11 of their last 12 match-ups. City lost only 6 times this season with 2 games to play, their record being 7. Tottenham has scored in their last 10 games, winning 8 of them.
Fulop will deputise again in goal for City, while Gomes undergoes a physical test prior to the game. It will be Tevez and Adebayor up against Defoe and Pavlyuchenko, in a game that could change the face of English football, if won by the hosts.
I tip both teams to score, at 3/5.

Villarreal vs Barcelona
Spanish Primera Division, 22h00
When Barcelona defeated Realmadrid at the Santiago Bernabeu, almost everyone was of the opinion that the Blaugrana cannot lose the title anymore. Yet, this was a very bad week for them, as Inter scrapped a memorable qualification at the Camp Nou Stadium playing with only 10 men for more than an hour. Such was Barcelona's lack of aggression that the Italian champions found it kind of normal to progress to the Final.
Tonight Barca can lose also the Primera Division title, as they take on Villarreal. The Yellow Submarine is a traditional tormentor for the Catalans as they frustrated Guardiola's men time and time again. The last two games finished with draws in the Camp Nou, after a Barcelona win and two Villarreal victories.
The hosts are in with a chance to get a UCL spot at the last sprint so it will very important for them to compete at their highest capabilities tonight.
I tip Villarreal not to lose tonight, at 6/5.
Manchester City 3:1 Aston Villa
Manchester City vs Aston Villa
English Premier League, 16h00
This is a game for the last UCL qualifying spot, a battle that also includes Tottenham. The three of them have not took part in Europe's elite competition since its rebranding in 1993.
These two have met 154 times in the English top-flight, with Villa winning only 2 of the last 14 games. That should be a boost for City who also play at their home stadium. The reverse fixture ended 1-1.
Villa have picked up 13 points of a possible 15 since being thrashed 7-1 at Chelsea. City have not scored in the last two games after scoring 11 in the previous two.
I tip the home side to win it, at 4/5.

Barcelona vs Inter
Uefa Champions League Semifinal 2nd leg, 20h45
It will be the Catalans' passing against Inter's resilience one against each other tonight at the Camp Nou. The stakes are huge, as the winner will play FC Bayern in the Final in Madrid. Inter are favourites after a 3-1 win in the 1st leg and Mourinho will be up for it again tonight.
In the first leg Barcelona had huge numbers: 72% possession of the ball, 650 passes compared to Inter's 250 and also more shots on goal. The Italian side was the realistic one, as they scored three goals from 4 shots.
The home players are very confident as they managed a 2-0 against Inter in the group stage, a result that will put them through if it is repeated tonight. Puyol and Iniesta miss out for Barcelona, as Sneijder has been declared fit for Inter. Messi did not score in 6 precedents against Mourinho's teams, while Inter are on a 6 win run, which will probably stop tonight, but I cannot seem them losing by more than the odd goal.
I tip Inter to go through, at 6/11.

Manchester United 3:1 Tottenham
Arsenal 0:0 Manchester City

Saturday, April 24, 2010

Arsenal vs Manchester City
English Premier League, 18h30
It will be a game of great importance for Manchester City, as they are fighting for 4th spot. Arsenal have wasted their chance to go all the way for the title with a mind-blowing defeat at Wigan, after they were winning 2-0 after 80 minutes of play.
As I said Arsenal will play only for pride, whereas City will play for reaching Europe's elite competition for the first time in history. Adebayor is in the middle of controversy, as he acted savagely in the reverse fixture, both defying Arsenal supporters and stamping his ex-teammate van Persie.
I tip City not to lose this one, at 3/5.

Manchester United vs Tottenham
English Premier League, 13h45
Manchester United are battling out with Chelsea for the title, trailing by one point as it stands. They welcome 4th place Spurs today, in an attempt to gain an advantage on the Blues, which themselves lost a week ago at White Hart Lane, 2-1. United are without Rooney in this one and it will be a question of resilience if they are to beat a strong team that have all to lose.
For Spurs it will be a monumental feat to win today, as they have not beaten a Top Four side away in 66 previous attempts. Watch for the likes of Bale and Modric to perform.
I tip Spurs not to lose, at 6/5.

Wednesday, April 21, 2010

FC Bayern vs Olympique Lyonnais
Uefa Champions League Semifinal 1st leg, 20h45
It will be a passionate affair tonight at the Allianz Arena in Munich as the Bavarian giants take on the best team of the last decade in France. Lyon have reached this stage of the competition for the first time, after several years when they were knocked out in the Round of 8. They have beaten Real Madrid and Bordeaux to get this far and it should be noted that les Gones were the team that passed the ball the least in the previous round, merely 5 times less than Barcelona players did. Lyon have a very good coach in Claude Puel, whose mentor is Arsene Wenger. Look out for a possible tactical genius arising. The players to look out for are Lisandro Lopez, Delgado and Pjanic.
As for Bayern, they have reached this stage by upsetting both Fiorentina and Manchester United, by the same 4-4 score and qualifying on the away goals rule. They have put on a show at the weekend defeating Hannover 7-0. No wonder are they called FC Hollywood. Ribery and Robben are the most explosive players the Germans have, but look out also for Olic. Louis van Gaal will sweat over the defensive block as van Bommel and Badstuber miss out.
I tip both teams to score, at 3/4.
Inter 3:1 Barcelona

Tuesday, April 20, 2010

Chelsea 1:0 Bolton
Inter vs Barcelona
Uefa Champions League Semifinal 1st leg, 20h45
This is a real showdown. It will be Mourinho against the best Barcelona team ever, as most reckon. The Blaugrana have traveled to Milano by bus due to air traffic problems. Iniesta is the only absentee for the visitors who will try to go to the Santiago Bernabeu Final.
Inter has clashed with Barca two more times this season, scoring none, drawing once and losing once by 2-0 at Camp Nou. Mourinho himself has started as a translator for Barcelona and since then he has developed into a real enemy for the Catalans, spearing swords with them when he was Chelsea manager. In the contests between Mourinho and Messi, the Portuguese seems to have the upper hand, as the Blaugrana no 10 did not score against the Special One, Barca winning one, drawing three and losing one in the process.
Inter will know how to contain Messi, because of their coach' passion for detail and tactical craftsmanship. As he did against Chelsea, in the round of 16, Mourinho will be brave in controlling a passing machine and blowing them appart with quick counterattacks.
I tip Inter not to lose tonight, at 1/2.

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

Chelsea 3:0 Aston Villa
Real Madrid 0:2 Barcelona
Chelsea vs Bolton
English Premier League, 20h00
This is a disproportionate encounter because of the standigs and also of the quality of the 2 squads. Chelsea are first while Bolton are 3 places above the relegation zone, mostly clear of threats.
Chelsea are 1 point ahead of United with one game in hand and can make it 4 points with a simple win tonight. The Blues have managed 17 goals in the last 4 games which ended with a 3-0 FA Cup Semifinal mauling of Aston Villa on Saturday.
Bolton have lost 2 times to Chelsea this season, both 4-0; home in the PL and away in the FA Cup.
It will be a show on the roll tonight so do not miss it.
I tip Chelsea to score 3 or more goals, at 3/4.

Saturday, April 10, 2010

Aston Villa vs Chelsea
English FA Cup Semifinal, 18h00
Chelsea have beaten Villa 7-1 at Stamford Bridge a fortnight ago. The Blues aim to win this trophy again after being successful in the Cup in recent years.
The Villans had a good PL season, trying to get a grip on a UCL spot. But now they look jaded, while starting to pour in lots of goals. The match at Wembley will be entertaining to say the least.
I tip Chelsea to win, at 1/2.
Real Madrid vs Barcelona
Spanish Primera Division, 22h00
This is a match-up that beats all rivalries on Earth. It is El Clasico and this only is expected to be the best one in history. These two teams are having a magnificent season. They are head to head, both with 77 points, 21 in front of 3rd placed Valencia. This is unprecedented.
It is expected as a Final and it should be, just for the fact that we will be entertained with the best players of the moment, Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi. But also, with a lot of others world class footballers. It will be Casillas against Valdes, Xabi Alonso against Xavi, Ramos versus Pedro, Higuain against Pique, Van der Vaart versus Yaya Toure, Marcelo against Dani Alves and the list can continue.
Real Madrid has one goal advantage in the standings which is nothing. But the people around football claim this is arguably the hottest Real Madrid side ever when it comes to stats. Though it is not in everybody's eyes because of this formidable Barcelona team or Pep Team how it is called. The Catalans won the first leg by 1-0 and it is revenge time for the Merengues tonight. The Whites are also out of the UCL which was a huge blow, having in mind that the Final will be played in the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Barcelona will play Mourinho's Inter in the Semifinal stage.
Real Madrid are without Pepe and Kaka, while Barcelona have Abidal and Ibrahimovic on the sidelines for the most anticipated game of the Spring.
I tip Real Madrid to win it, at 3/2.

Thursday, April 08, 2010

Pandurii vs Dinamo
Romanian Liga I, 19h30
Pandurii is a team that fights to avoid relegation. They have an experienced coach in Sorin Cirtu, an out-going human being with some similarities to Jose Mourinho. He was a very talented player instead, unlike the Special One.
Dinamo is going for the title and should win this one as they posses much more quality than today's counterparts. Also, the Red Dogs have a good recent history in matches at Pandurii.
I tip Dinamo to nick this, at 4/5.

Poli Iasi vs cfr
Romanian Liga I, 17h30
cfr is first in the standings and look for another 1-0 win to keep their good momentum. The guests have a good balanced squad and seem favourites for this game. Almost all their rivals lost points in midweek.
Poli Iasi is in the bottom half of the table. They have young talented players and a temperamental coach in Grigoras, a man much like Cirtu, but with an attacking mind set. This team did upset cfr last season and I expect another performance like that, even though with young teams you can't know.
I tip Poli Iasi not to lose, at 4/5.
Gloria 1:2 Steaua

Wednesday, April 07, 2010

Gloria vs Steaua
Romanian Liga I, 19h00
Gloria have had a good start of the second part of the season, winning five from six matches. They have a new coach with a good youthful and positive approach and have climbed out of the relegation zone.
Steaua are aiming for the title but this is not a friendly venue to come to. Gloria has not lost at home since September.
I'm tipping the home side not to lose, at 3/5.
Cagliari 2:3 Milan

Saturday, April 03, 2010

Cagliari vs Milan
Italian Serie A, 15h00
Milan are in the hunt for the title but have been not excellent in the last few games. They miss the edge in my opinion. Pato should be missing again and that is a big blow for Leonardo's men.
The reverse game produced 7 goals and I expect Cagliari to be a very good match for Milan again today. They have lost only once in 12 games at home.
I tip Cagliari not to lose, at 9/10.

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

FC Bayern vs Manchester United
Uefa Champions League, 20h45
The first fact that comes to my mind is that United have beaten Bayern just once in 7 European games and that was in the 98/99 season Final. Other than that, Michael Owen scored as many goals in Germany this season as tonight's host did, 3. And Owen is a substitute for United. Rooney is in a rich vein of form and he will try to keep the momentum going.
For the hosts Ribery and Robben will face late fitness tests. The Bavarians looked leaky in defense whenever they;ve played against important teams, but very expansive in attack.
I predict a high scoring game. Over 2 goals is valued at 7/10.

Monday, March 29, 2010

Sunday, March 28, 2010

Gloria vs Ceahlaul
Romanian Liga I, 14h00
This game will be full with ambition, as both sides try to avoid relegation. Both teams were in the relegation zone in winter. Ceahlaul are still there but have managed some good displays, winning 3-1 at Steaua in the process.
Gloria have won 4 out of seven games losing just once. They have a new and very talented coach. I believe the home side will stroll to victory today.
I tip Gloria to win, at 6/11.
Fiorentina vs Udinese
Italian Serie A, 15h00
Udinese are a team with lots of talent. But they've changed many coaches and find themselves just above the relegation zone. Even though they are leading 4-3 in the last 7 games against the Viola, Udinese have managed to gain only 5 points away from home this season, not winning a single match in the process.
Fiorentina were in a mess themselves after Mutu's suspension in January. Since then they've lost a lot of games, even 5 in succesion and were thrown out of the UCL by FC Bayern. There is some tension between the owners and coach Prandelli, but the sheer quality they have in the squad will be good enough today.
I tip Fiorentina to win, at 7/10.

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

Astra 1:3 Timisoara

Monday, March 22, 2010

Astra vs Timisoara
Romanian Liga I, 16h00
Timisoara is fighting for the title and will try to give their best today. But their form away is bad. The guests have lost Bucur in January and have failed to find a replacement for their top goalscorer.
Astra have got very good results recently and especially at home. With coach Nicolo Napoli in charge they've beaten Rapid twice and Steaua also; before drawing against Dinamo.
I tip Astra not to lose, at 3/'5.
Cagliari 0:2 Lazio
Valencia 2:0 Almeria
Sampdoria 1:0 Juventus

Sunday, March 21, 2010

Cagliari vs Lazio
Italian Serie Am 15h00
Cagliari are a very good team at Sant'Elia, having not lost in the last 11 games. Still they have only one point in the last 4 games and have lost the last game at home to Lazio. Cagliari have beaten Lazio only once in the last 10 between them.
Lazio have to concede they are in a big mess, having won only a point in the last 4 and standing just above the relegation zone. Lazio have won only once in the last ten games in Serie A.
I tip Cagliari to win, at 11/10.

Sampdoria vs Juventus
Italian Serie A, 20h45
Juventus have lost at Fulham 4-1 and failed to qualify further in the Europa League. The Bianconeri are just 1 point above Sampdoria in the standings. Sampdoria have won only one time in the last 17 games against Juventus, but the guests will have to cope with fatigue after Thursday's game.
Sampdoria have not lost at home for 22 games, which is big. Juventus has not lost at Marassi since 1995.
I tip Sampdoria to win, at 1/2.
Valencia vs Almeria
Spanish Primera Division, 19h00
Valencia take on Almeria after a thrilling game in the Europa League on Thursday; they've went through after a 4-4 draw at Bremen with David Villa in wonderful form. Even though last Sunday they were beaten soundly by Barcelona 3-0. Coach Emery has a lot of troubles in defence, but otherwise the attack will be at full thrust once again.
Almeria is in good form also having lost only to Sevilla since the new coach Lillo has arrived.
I tip Valencia to win, at 6/11.

Monday, March 15, 2010

Catania 3:1 Inter
Tottenham 3:1 Blackburn
Livorno 3:3 Roma

Friday, March 12, 2010

Livorno vs Roma
Italian Serie A, Sunday 15h00
Livorno has beaten Roma only once in the last 9 games, but it was the last time they played at Olimpico in autumn, 1-0. Still, they are now as low as 18th, while Roma are 3rd, having seen a remarkable sequence where they did not lose. summing up to 17 outings. Livorno has drawn at home to Juventus and Milan but have lost their last 4 games in Serie A.
Roma are trying to close the gap on Inter, while revenging for the defeat suffered at home in the reverse fixture. Roma has won 17 points from a losing position, which is the highest in Italy this season. Look for Totti, Toni and Vucinic to provide the attacking prowess.
I tip Roma to win, at 9/10.
Catania vs Inter
Italian Serie A, Saturday 20h45
Catania have a good sequence mostly at home where they are unbeaten for 5 games, in which they've won 3. They have only conceded one goal in the process. Since Mihajlovic took over, they climbed out of the relegation zone.
Inter have won the last 8 games against Catania, in which they always scored at least twice. But the Nerazzurri have drawn 4 of the last 5 domestic games. Mourinho has to have in mind that he plays Chelsea on Tuesday, in a match which means make or break for Inter's season.
I expect Inter to win, at evens.
Tottenham vs Blackburn
English Premier League, Saturday 13h45
Blackburn are a decent side. They will win most of their points at home this season and eventually save themselves. They have good quality in each part of the field. They gave Liverpool a good game at Anfield last time around, losing by 2-1.
Tottenham have all to play for. They eye a four place finish and are the favourites to do so taking in consideration the recent drops in form of Manchester City and Liverpool. But it will be very tough, because it is very important to play in the elite European competition. Look for the likes of Modric and Crouch to make the difference.
I predict a home win, at 1/2.

Sunday, March 07, 2010

Deportivo 3:1 Tenerife
Cagliari 2:2 Catania
Palermo 1:0 Livorno

Friday, March 05, 2010

Deportivo vs Tenerife
Spanish Primera Division, Saturday 18h00
Tenerife has lost 1-5 last week at home to Realmadrid and have lost 9 from 11 away games. They are in the relegation zone and concede lots of goals. I simply cannot see them escaping.
Deportivo are very strong at home. They are fighting for a European qualification spot. Deportivo has got some pedigree in the Uefa competitions, having enjoyed a Semifinal of the UCL in 2004, when beaten by Mourinho's Porto.
I tip Deportivo to win, at 3/4.
Cagliari vs Catania
Italian Serie A, Sunday 15h00
Catania has won three of the last 4 games versus Cagliari. Cagliari has lost the last 2 games in Serie A, which were away, but has won the last 2 at home against Bari and Parma. The Sards are in the Europa League zone of the table. Allegri was elected as the best coach in Italy last season.
Cagliari have not lost at home for 10 games, seven of those being wins. Catania have committed the most fouls in the Serie A, 576.
I tip Cagliari to win, at 11/10.
Palermo vs Livorno
Italian Serie A, Sunday 15h00
Palermo have beaten Livorno in the last 5 head-to-head games. The home team is 4th in the standings, while Livorno are 18th. Palermo has not lost at home for a year. With the new coach  Delio Rossi, Palermo has won 6 from 6 at home.
Fabrizio Miccoli has scored 3 times in the last 3 games, having summed 9 seasonal goals as he is the teams best goalscorer  Livorno has lost the last 3 consecutive matches. The home team's coach has not won in 4 games against his counterpart.
I tip Palermo to win, at 6/11.

Saturday, February 27, 2010

Chelsea 2:4 Manchester City
Chelsea vs Manchester City City have found it very tough away from home lately. The Sky Blues have managed only a win from the last eleven games. Roberto Mancini is under intense pressure these days. With the loss at Stoke on Wednesday, they have no chance at all of winning silverware this season. Chelsea have it all to play for. They are top of the standings and will also push all the way to win the UCL and the FA Cup. Chelsea have won all their games at home except for a 3-3 draw against Everton. Adebayor, Vieira, A. Cole and Essien will all miss today. I tip Chelsea to win, at 4/5.

Friday, February 26, 2010

Thursday, February 25, 2010

Valencia vs Bruges
Europa League, 21h05
Valencia have lost the first leg 1-0 in Bruges plus David Silva sent off. Bruges are traveling without four men to Mestalla and will try to defend their small advantage.
Valencia will throw all at the guests and the likes of Villa and Mata are going to pull this off for the home side. It will be a packed stadium tonight as Marca reports.
I tip Valencia to win by more than a goal, valued at 2/3.
Shakhtar vs Fulhmam
Europa League, 19h00
In the first leg the Cottagers won by 2-1 in a match the Ukrainians had controlled by a mile. Fulham is dismal away from home, to say the least.
Shakhtar would have gained some match fitness in London and will now be more wary about their opponents. Expect the home side to win comfortably, even if Fulham is a very disciplined team.
I tip Shakhtar to win, at 6/11.

Monday, February 22, 2010

Sunday, February 21, 2010

Gaz Metan 0:0 Vaslui
Fiorentina 2:1 Livorno
Roma 1:0 Catania
Fiorentina vs Livorno
Italian Serie A, 15h00
Livorno are in the relegation zone with only 23 points to their tally. They have lost the last for times they met Fiorentina.
The hosts have lost 5 from the last 6 games, including a wonderful game at bayern in midweek in which they made a very good performance only to be denied by bad refereeing in the end. Fiorentina will bounce back.
I tip the home side to win, at 2/3.
Roma vs Catania
Italian Serie A, 15h00
Catania have a good young coach in Mihajlovic. He managed a win last time he came to Rome, beating his former team Lazio 1-0.
Roma are unbeaten since November and are trying to make a decent title challenge. They can put pressure on Inter with 3 points today. That will take Ranieri's troops to -5.
I tip Roma to nick it, at 1/2.
Dinamo vs Universitatea Craiova
Romanian Liga I, 18h30
It is a big rivalry between these sides, mostly coming from the guests. Craiova have a talented side with a new Dutch coach. They are trying to avoid relegation this season.
Dinamo has beaten today's opponent in 8 of the last 10 home games. The home side is pushing for the title this season and will try to profit from other teams' mistakes.
I tip the home side to win, at 3/5.
Gaz Metan vs Vaslui
Romanian Liga I, 13h00
After some big surprises yesterday, I expect Vaslui to put pressure on the top sides. Gaz Metan play wonderful attacking football, but can be also very poor defensively.
Vaslui are tipped to be pushing for the European spots this season, maybe even the championship. In the previous 4 encounters between these two, Vaslui have won 3 times with the other match finishing level.
I predict an away win, at 23/20.

Saturday, February 20, 2010

Friday, February 19, 2010

Everton vs Manchester United
English Premier League, Saturday 14h45

Everton has the poorest record in the PL when playing against United. The Toffees only managed 3 wins in 35 matches, being defeated in 27 of them. Fellaini is a long-time injury concern for the home side, who defeated Sporting 2-1 in mid-week, after beating Chelsea by the same score last weekend.
Manchester United has of course beaten Milan at San Siro 3-2 and will try to leapfrog Chelsea to the top of the standings.

I tip United to prevail, at 9/11.

Thursday, February 18, 2010

Wednesday, February 17, 2010

Bayern Munich vs Fiorentina
Uefa Champions League, 20h45
Bayern have a host of stars like Robben, Ribery, Olic, Gomez. The Bavarian giants have won 12 games in a row in the Bundesliga. But they have scraped qualification from the group stage winning the last game in Turin against Juventus.
Fiorentina are on a disastrous run in the Serie A, where they've won only one point from 5 games. Gilardino has not scored for more than a month. And the Viola find themselves nearer the relegation zone rather than the places that provide UCL qualification. I think the Allianz Arena is a very inspiring stage and Fiorentina will get back on track. I have to remind you that Fiorentina have won the last 5 in a row in this competition, including a win at Anfield.
I tip the guests to score anytime, at 8/11.
Porto vs Arsenal
Uefa Champions League, 20h45
Porto have a great record against British teams at Dragao. They've lost only to United once, and have beaten Chelsea and Liverpool; Arsenal lost there 2-0 in last year's group stage. The Gunners played that game with an understrength side being already qualified. Wenger will have to cope with the absencees of Van Persie, Vela, Eduardo, Arshavin, Gallas and Song.
Porto are not first in the domestic league, which is some news. But they will still poise a big threat to the Londoners tonight. Look for Falcao to deliver, but also for the hunger of Brazilian Hulk. Porto have created 128 scoring chances in the group stage to Arsenal's 101.
I tip Porto to score first, at 4/5.
Olympique Lyonnais 1:0 Real Madrid
Stoke 1:1 Manchester City

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

Olympique Lyon vs Real Madrid
Uefa Champions League 1st Knock-out stage 1st leg, 20h45
Lyon will face familiar faces when they take on Real Madrid. The French giants have played los Merengues 4 times beating them twice and drawing twice. They ousted Liverpool from the group stage, but are not in a good season at home, having conceded more than 1 goal per game.
Real Madrid has a battle with destiny tonight, as los Blancos have crashed out of this competition in every one of the last five years. Cristiano Ronaldo is the competition goalscorer.
I tip Real Madrid to win tonight, at 6/5.
Stoke vs Manchester City
English Premier League, 20h45
These two have met on Saturday in Eastlands where it finished 1-1 in the FA Cup. That means it will be replayed next Wednesday. For this match Stoke will be without Matthew Etherington, their best player in my eyes. The Potters have lost just one of their last 10 games at home.
City are not very good when they travel and will have to do without Tevez, Bellamy and Kompany. Still, the Sky Blues will have to win if they are to pose a great threat for Arsenal and Liverpool this season. It will be a high-tempo physical game, which I fancy. Manchester City have won 5 of their last 6 games against Stoke. Adebayor has netted in all of the last three games, after scoring just twice in the last previous four months.
I tip Manchester City to win, at 3/2.

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

Tuesday, February 09, 2010

Manchester City vs Bolton
English Premier League, 20h45
Bolton have managed only one win in the last 7 encounters with City. Still, Adebayor made 8 appearances against Bolton without scoring.
City are in pursuit of a top four finish, but Mancini has lost 3 of the last 6 in all competitions with the first four games all wins, more than his Mark Hughes did, 2 from 21. With the Italian in the dugout City concede far less goals though. The Sky Blues are unbeaten at Eastlands for 19 games, since last April. The hosts are in a 21 home games run in which they always scored.
I tip City to win tonight, at 1/2.

Monday, February 08, 2010

Chelsea 2:0 Arsenal
Birmingham 2:1 Wolves
Zaragoza 2:1 Sevilla

Sunday, February 07, 2010

Chelsea vs Arsenal
English Premier League, 17h00
In November, Chelsea trounced Arsenal 3-0 at Emirates. The Blues are first in the standings, but Manchester United are right there behind them.
The likes of Lampard and Drogba will look forward to this match as they relish this derbies. They have a very good record against Arsenal, as the Ivorian captain has scored once per match against the Gunners.
Arsenal has put together some good results, but have lost 3-1 at home to United.
I tip Chelsea to win today, at 9/11.
Zaragoza vs Sevilla
Spanish Primera Division, 19h00
Zaragoza are 18th and will struggle to maintain their status as a top flight team. They won at lowly Tenerife last time around, but Sevilla is fearless mostly away this season.
Negredo is in a good vein of form and Luis Fabiano could be back. Look also for the likes of Jesus Navas and Perroti.
I tip Sevilla to win, at 5/4.
Hull 2:1 Manchester City
Birmingham vs Wolves
English Premier League, 14h30
Birmingham had a very good season so far. They are in the European zone and went on a 14 match unbeaten run. Birmingham have not lost against Wolves in 8 competitive games.
Wolves have scored only 19 goals this season, while Birmingham have scored only 22.
I tip Birmingham to win it, at evens.

Saturday, February 06, 2010

Hull vs Manchester City
English Premier League, 16h00
Hull held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw in midweek, but I expect them to struggle today against City. Hull have not won in their last 10 league games. Hull has the worst defensive record in the league, conceding 49 goals. The Tigers have also committed the highest number of fouls, 333.
Manchester City have won 5 of their last 6 league games.
I tip City to win, at 4/5.

Monday, February 01, 2010

Sunday, January 31, 2010

Egypt vs Ghana
African Cup of Nations, 17h00
Egypt has won two times in a row this competition. The Pharaohs have defeated their rivals Algeria 4-0 in the Semifinals, while Ghana are without Essien, Muntari, Mensah and Appiah. The Black Stars have very good youth talent as they won the U20 World Cup last year, but I will go for the much better tactical approach and knowledge of the North Africans.
I tip Egypt to win, at 4/5.
Atletico Madrid vs Malaga
Spanish Primera Division, 19h00
Malaga defeated Atletico 3-0 in autumn. That calls for revenge. With Forlan on form, the hosts can win tonight, to climb through the standings.
I tip Atletico to win, at 7/10.

Thursday, January 28, 2010

Inter vs Juventus
Coppa Italia Quarterfinals, 20h45
Eto'o will be back for Inter, while Del Piero is out for Juve.
Ferrara is holding on to his job.
I tip Inter to win, at 9/10.
Manchester United 3:1 Manchester City

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

Manchester United vs Manchester City
English League Cup, 21h00
I will focus again on this derby, as I did last week. City won 2-1 at home, in a match that saw United better throughout the first half, but City responded so well after the break.
United face the same maybe more problems in defence than last week, as Vidic is out with injury and Rio Ferdinand may be facing a three match ban if he doesn't make an appeal. As for attack, United will once again put their faith in Rooney and provide him with all the support. Many say that United is dependent on Rooney at the moment.
In the other camp, Mancini will have Toure and Adebayor back from the African Cup of Nations, but they are expected to start the evening on the bench. Tevez will pose the main peril for the hosts, as Bellamy will have his way on the left. The Welsh made two stunning performances against United this season and he will give Sir Alex Ferguson a few headaches before and as the game develops. City were very frustrated when they lost 4-3 in autumn at Old Trafford courtesy of an 96th minute winner from Michael Owen.
It is very tight when we analyze head-to-head history as they have both won 3 times in the last 6 encounters.
Manchester City have not been in a Cup Final for 29 years.
I will go for City to go to Wembley, at 4/5.

Manchester City vs Manchester United
English League Cup Semifinal 1st leg, 21h00
The derby of Manchester has to welcome a new face, as Roberto Mancini took over as manager at Eastlands. He managed 4 wins in 5 games and has won the fans with good performances from the team. They kept three clean sheets in that span of games, but on Saturday at Everton they were simply not good enough and could not cope with the Toffees momentum.
Manchester United are in a huge dip of form and will need this derby in order to gain some momentum. But with Ferdinand and Giggs out; Vidic and Berbatov highly questionable it will be hard to cope with the Sky Blues drive for success. Still United has won the last three meetings between these two, while City won the two before those.

I think Bellamy and Tevez will be instrumental in tonight's matchup and will win the game for the home side.
I tip Manchester City to win, at odds as high as 7/8.

Fiorentina 1:2 Bologna
Napoli 0:0 Palermo
Napoli vs Palermo
Italian Serie A, 20h30
These are two top ten teams, with Napoli 4th in the standings. Lavezzi and Santacroce will miss out for the Partenopei, which lost 3-0 at Juventus in midweeks Coppa Italia game. That was the first loss under new coach Mazzarri. Napoli are unbeaten in 12 Serie A games.
Palermo has some more injured players. While Liverani is extremely doubtful, Kjaer, Carozieri and Bresciano are definitely out.
The last 3 games between these two have finished with the same score, 2-1 for the hosts. The last win for Palermo away at Napoli goes back to 1952. Napoli has won its last 3 games in the Serie A without conceding. Goalscorer Marek Hamsik has scored in the each of the last three games against Napoli.
I tip Napoli to win, at 6/5.
Fiorentina vs Bologna
Italian Serie A, 15h00
Fiorentina is a team with good recent form. The Viola have won three on the trot, while the guest have lost 3 consecutive games. Also, the host are unbeaten in 6 against Bologna. The last win for Bologna goes back to 2001, while the last time Fiorentina lost at home to the Rossoblu was in 1990.
The last time Bologna won away in Serie A was a year ago. Since then they have played 17 games. Bologna has scored just once in the last 3 games. Prandelli has never lost against Colomba.
Mutu and Gilardino will once again lead the hosts attacks.
I tip Fiorentina to win, at 1/2.
Athletic Bilbao 1:0 Real Madrid

Saturday, January 16, 2010

Athletic Bilbao vs Real Madrid
Spanish Primera Division, 20h00
Athletic are a good team this season. They have kept Barca to a draw at home and are fighting for a place in the European Cups. The Basc side plays a physical type of football.
We will see how can Real Madrid cope with that, because it will be also a hostile environment at San Mames Stadium given the rivalry between the sides. At Osasuna the Merengues stumbled, but now they have Kaka back from injury. Real Madrid has won the last five meeting with Bilbao, so they have some good recent history.
Higuain will miss out through injury, but Ramos is back after suspension.
I tip Real to win it, at 3/5.

Sunday, January 10, 2010

Fiorentina 2:1 Bari
Napoli 1:0 Sampdoria
Palermo 1:0 Atalanta
Napoli vs Sampdoria
Italian Serie A, 15h00
Napoli is unbeaten in the last 11 games, all with new coach Walter Mazzarri. The Partenopei have not lost at home this season, with 6 wins and 3 draws to their name.
Sampdoria has lost its last 6 games away from home. Sampdoria has scored only 4 goals away from home in 8 games. Quagliarella has signed for Napoli from Sampdoria and has managed 4 goals in the last 4 outings. Napoli has scored the most goals after half time this season, 19.
I tip the home side to win, at 9/11.
Wolverhampton 0:3 Manchester City
Palermo vs Atalanta
Italian Serie A, 15h00
Palermo has not lost at home for 15 games and has conceded just twice in the last 6 games. Also, Palermo has beaten Milan away 2-0 last month. Atalanta has won only one point in the last 4 games, against Inter at home.
Atalanta has conceded the most goals in the first half, 15. The guests have lost 3 of the last 4 away games and coach Antonio Conte was sacked.
I tip Palermo to win, at 8/11.
Fiorentina vs Bari
Italian Serie A, 15h00
The two teams that will play against each other today are equal on points in the standings.
Fiorentina has not drawn any of its last 9 games in Serie A and has won only two of the last 5 games at home. Meanwhile, Bari has won 3 from the last 4 games, but have won only 1 point from their last 4 away games. Bari's Brazilian striker Barreto has scored in each of the last 3 games and has a total of 5 goals this season. Gilardino has scored 5 times in the last 5 games played.
Each team has a host of injuries with Fiorentina's Gamberini, Vargas and Bari's Kutuzov among the most important.
I tip Fiorentina to win, at 8/11.

Tottenham 2:0 West Ham
Chelsea 2:1 Fulham
Wolverhampton vs Manchester City
English Premier League, 20h45
The Wolves are a side that will fight for avoiding relegation, while City with the appointment of Italian legend Mancini tried to send a message to the other title contenders.
In the first game in charge at Eastlands, Mancini masterminded a win without conceding, something City hadn't seen in a while. It is another feat that will be achieved tonight. Manchester City have not won away since August, despite they've only lost twice this season. It is thought Bellamy will step in for Robinho.
I tip City to win, at 9/11.
Chelsea vs Fulham
English Premier League, 16h00
Chelsea have won only once in December, but are still topping the standings. They will lose Drogba and Kalou to the African Cup of Nations and that is why a win today is so important.
Fulham are impressive at home; have beaten Manchester United 3-0, but away they struggle to go on the counter.
I tip Chelsea to win today, at 2/5.
Tottenham vs West Ham
English Premier League, 13h45
West Ham have not won in their last 8 away games and not won any of the last 7 London derbies they were involved in. Tottenham have conceded only once in the last 4 games against the Hammers. The Spurs are in a run of 4 clean sheets kept in a row.
Harry Redknapp's troops have managed a 0-0 draw at Fulham two days ago, while West Ham have beaten Portsmouth 2-0.
I tip Tottenham to win, at 5/11.

Birmingham vs Chelsea
English Premier League,13h45
It's the Boxing Day action in the Premier League and it all starts with two of the best teams. Birmingham are 7th while Chelsea sit on top of the standings. The hosts have kept 7 clean sheets while Chelsea are the only side to have kept more, 9. Birmingham won everyone of the 7 games in which they've scored first. The hosts are unbeaten in 9 games.
Chelsea is the only top flight team to have scored in every game of the season. The Blues have won only one of the last six. Drogba will play his last game ahead of the African Cup of Nations.
I tip Chelsea to win, at 6/11.

Sunday, December 20, 2009

Sporting Gijon 0:1 Sevilla
Atalanta 1:1 Inter
West Ham vs Chelsea
English Premier League, 17h00
Chelsea has a 3-point cushion over second placed Manchester United with today's London derby in hand. The Red Devils were brushed aside 3-0 by Fulham on Saturday. Drogba returns to the line-up, while Carlton Cole and Valon Behrami will miss out for West Ham.
Chelsea have won their last 4 trips to Upton Park, scoring 12 and conceding only 2. West Ham have conceded 9 goals in their last 3 games at home. The Blues have kept most clean sheets this season, 9.
Didier Drogba has already scored 18 goals this season in all competitions.
I expect Chelsea to win this one, at 5/11.

Sunday, December 13, 2009

Sporting Gijon vs Sevilla
Spanish Primera Division, 21h00
The hosts' coach said that Sevilla and Chelsea are the most physical sides in Europe, having great strength, aerial proficiency and speed. Gijon is a good team mostly at home and will count on De las Cuevas to provide the magic again.
Sevilla will play without some injured players, including Luis Fabiano. but the likes of Perroti, Jesus Navas and Renato will provide the assists for Negredo and Kanoute. Sevilla must keep the pace with Real Madrid and Barcelona, after two home draws in the league and a 1-0 win in the midweek UCL action.
I tip Sevilla to win, at 6/5.
Atalanta vs Inter
Italian Serie A, 15h00
Atalanta are placed just above the drop zone. They have a young coach in Antonio Conte, ex Juventus captain. They have lost the last 3 games at home.
Also Inter lost its last 2 away, at Barcelona and Juventus and will look to bounce back, as they want to keep second placed AC Milan at bay. Inter has won 6 of the last 8 against Atalanta. The Nerazzurri have the best attack in the league with 34 goals. Sneijder will play, as we should mention that Inter have lost only when he could not play.
I tip Inter to win, at 2/3.
Cagliari 3:3 Napoli
Manchester United 0:1 Aston Villa

Friday, December 11, 2009

Cagliari vs Napoli
Italian Serie A, Saturday 18h00
Cagliari are unbeaten in the last 8 matches against Napoli. But Napoli have not lost under new coach Mazzari, 4 wins and 4 draws. Cagliari has won its last 4 at home and has not conceded in the last 3.
Cagliari has lost to Palermo 2-1 in the last match, after defeating Juventus 2-0. Cagliari and Fiorentina are the teams with the most clean-sheets this season, seven. Napoli has scored more than a goal in an away match only once this season, in the 3-2 win at Juventus.
I tip Cagliari to win, at 4/3.
Manchester United vs Aston Villa
English Premier League, Saturday 18h30
In the last ten encounters between these two there have been nine wins for United and a draw. The Red Devils have gone to 27 games without defeat against tomorrow's opponents, this being the biggest mismatch in Premier League history. The last time the Villans avoided defeat at Old Trafford was in 2002. But, the guests are the only side to have not lost to a top ten team this season.
Wayne Rooney has scored five goals in his last five starts against Aston Villa. United have scored 11 goals in their last 3 league outings. After a goalless draw in the opening day of the season, Martin O'Neill's men have scored in every match so far, summing up to 14. Aston VIlla have won 99 games away from home.
United seem to be a very lucky side and stroll against the teams outside the top four.

The home side will welcome back the likes of Giggs, Rooney, Berbatov and Vidic, while Aston Villa have no new injury wories.
I tip United to win it, at 1/2.

Wednesday, December 09, 2009

Olympiacos 1:0 Arsenal
Stuttgart 3:1 Unirea
Inter 2:0 Rubin
Lyon 4:0 Debrecen
Olympique Lyonnais vs Debrecen
Uefa Champions League, 20h45
Debrecen has conceded the most goals in this competition 15 and the overall record is set at 19. Lyon defeated Debrecen away 4-0.
Lyon will finish top of the group if they win and Fiorentina loses at Liverpool or win by 2 or more goals and Fiorentina manages to draw. Lisandro Lopez has scored 7 goals in his last 6 games played.
I predict Lyon to win by more than a goal, at 6/11.
Inter vs Rubin
Uefa Champions League, 20h45
Both teams have the same record in this group: 1 win, 3 draws and a loss. The reverse match finished 1-1 in Russia. Inter has not won at home in the last four games of this competition, drawing the last 3, while Rubin is undefeated in 4, the last two finishing goalless.
To assure qualification, each side must win because either of the four teams from this group has its faith in its own hands.
The big fact of this game is that Sneijder is back from injury and his presence will be essential for Inter tonight.
I tip Inter to win, at 7/11.
Vfb Stuttgart vs Unirea
Uefa Champions League, 20h45
Stuttgart is one of the few teams that have scored in everyone of the five games played in this year's UCL. But, they've conceded in the last 6 played at home in the UCL. The Germans are 2 points behind Unirea in the standings and need to win in order to progress to the knock-out stage of the competition.
Unirea is a lowly team even in Romania. The team's central figure is coach Dan Petrescu, a Chelsea favourite. They have managed two wins in this competition, 4-1 at Rangers and 1-0 at home to Sevilla, and two home draws. It's players are hard working and will fight for every yard tonight.
I tip Unirea to qualify, at 13/10.
Olympiakos vs Arsenal
Uefa Champions League, 20h45
Olympiakos have won both matches at home in this season's UCL. Still are yet to be sure of qualification. The Greek side still needs a point. Zico has some injury problems but can field an experienced team that can put down Arsenal's young guns.
Arsene Wenger has brought to Athens a very young squad, in which the most experienced are Walcott and Song. The Gunners are already qualified and assured of first position and will play Liverpool on Sunday.
I tip the home side to win, at 6/5.
Astra 1:1 Dinamo
Wolfsburg 1:3 Manchester United

Tuesday, December 08, 2009

Wolfsburg vs Manchester United
Uefa Champions League, 20h45
Wolfsburg are for the first time in this competition, still they have a big chance of qualifying for the next round. They need to win against Manchester United tonight or to get at least the number of points CSKA Moscow manage to gain at Besiktas. Martins will be out, but the Wolfs have managed good results at home, beating CSKA 3-1 and drawing 0-0 with Besiktas; while they winning their match at United only for two late goals from Giggs and Fletcher to deny them collecting points.
United are already qualified and are hit by a huge injury crisis. No less than 15 first squad players are out with injury. That means the only natural defender left in the squad is Patrice Evra. Carrick and Fletcher will deputise along the Frechman in a defensive line that will have to feature another of the 13 midfielders that have made the trip to Germany. Giggs is rested, while up front there will bo no Rooney or Berbatov, Michael Owen being the most important attacking player that is in the squad.

They lost the last game in the competition 0-1 at home to Besiktas.
I tip Wolfsburg to win this game, at 6/5.
Astra vs Dinamo
Romanian Liga I, 19h00
Dinamo has defeated Astra 2-1 in the Romanian Cup last month, also away, so it won't be that much of a surprise if the Red Dogs manage it again.
Astra are placed just above the relegation zone with 16 points and wil be missing a host of players that are on loan from today's opponents.
Dinamo has to close the gap on the leaders to 3 points, in order to have a chance at the championship.
I tip Dinamo to win, at 4/5.

Sunday, December 06, 2009

Fiorentina 2:0 Atalanta
Vaslui 1:1 Otelul
Fiorentina vs Atalanta
Italian Serie A, 15h00
Atalanta has not won against the Viola  in the last 7 games and has lost the last 2 by the same 2-1 scoreline. Still, Fiorentina has lost the last two games and four of the last six in the league, as they dropped to 10th spot.
Atalanta has lost 4 of the last 5 and find themselves just above the drop zone.
Jovetic could make his long awaited return, while Mutu and Gamberini are still short of fitness. Fiorentina plays at Liverpool next week in the UCL.
I tip Fiorentina to win this one, at 3/5.
Vaslui vs Otelul
Romanian Liga I, 15h00
Vaslui has won the last 4 consecutive encounters with Otelul. The home side has a far superior form, as they've won 8 from their last 9 outings and are level on top of the standings.
Otelul has won its last game, but they've won only two of the last 8 games played in all competitions.
I tip Vaslui to win, at 1/2.
Deportivo 1:3 Barcelona

Saturday, December 05, 2009

Manchester City 2:1 Chelsea
Aston Villa 3:0 Hull
Aston Villa vs Hull
English Premier League, 16h00
Aston Villa have drawn 4 of their last 6 league games, but have won in midweek 4-2 at Portsmouth in the League Cup. The Villans have only lost once at home this season, in the first day against Wigan. Aston Villa have not kept a clean sheet in their last 9 games, but have won in their last 5 matches against Hull without conceding a goal.
Hull have a 4 match unbeaten run, their second best since they promoted to the top-flight. Ian Ashbee is still missing for the guests. The Tigers are one of the two teams that have not won away in this season's Premier League. They have managed only a clean sheet in their last 12 games.
I tip Villa to win, at 1/2.
Deportivo La Coruna vs Barcelona
Spanish Primera Division, 22h00
Deportivo has not lost at home to Barca in 4 games. They are also very strong this season having won 4 and drew 1 in 6 home games. The hosts are fifth in the standings and will have to do without Riki tonight.
Barcelona will have their minds set on the crucial UCL match in Kiev next week where they mustn't lose.
Busquets could be on for Toure Yaya and Iniesta for Henry. Barca have won 4 and drew 3 away games this season.
I tip Deportivo not to lose, at 9/10.
Manchester City vs Chelsea
English Premier League, 18h30
Carlo Ancelotti said that the most important matches of this week are the ones against Arsenal and Manchester City. That meant the team against Blackburn was experimental and that game turned out to be a very entertaining one. Now, Chelsea will be at full strength again at the City of Manchester Stadium. The Blues are top of the table, five points clear of second placed Manchester United. Chelsea have won in 10 of the last 12 away games at City. The Sky Blues have not scored in 12 of the last 14 overall against Chelsea, also losing the last consecutive 8 in the process. In their last 5 league games, Chelsea have scored 17 goals and conceded none.

These two are the most disciplined sides in this Premier League season.
Manchester City have drawn their last 7 games in the Premier League, an English record. Mark Hughes has lost just once in 17 games this season, away at Manchester United.
Bellamy, Ireland, Petrov and Shaun Wright-Phillips are doubtful for the hosts.
I tip Chelsea to win, at 9/10.

Thursday, December 03, 2009

Dinamo Bucuresti vs Sturm Graz
Uefa Europa League, 21h05
The Austrians managed only one point in the group stage of this competition. That was gained in Istanbul after a 1-1 draw with Galatasaray, which is the best team in the group. The Turks have dismantled Dinamo 3-0 and 4-1.
Dinamo has won in Austria 1-0 and seem to have regained their momentum in the domestic league. The Romanian side has far more technical quality in their squad and must be favourite to win this game.

I have to tip Dinamo tonight for a win, at 4/5.
Manchester City 3:0 Arsenal
Blackburn 2:2 Chelsea
Sheriff 1:1 Steaua

Wednesday, December 02, 2009

Sheriff vs Steaua
Uefa Europa League, 19h00
As strange as it sounds, a team from Moldova is favourite against a Romanian side. I've lived to see this. Awful.
Sheriff beat Twente and lost to Fenerbahce, having drawn away at Steaua in between.
Steaua are leaders in the domestic league and have to win if they want to have a chance of qualifying further in the competition. I believe the Romanians will have enough to put the hosts down. Mihai Stoichita is a gifted coach and I trust him.
I tip Steaua to win, at a huge value of 2/1.
Blackburn vs Chelsea
English League Cup, 21h00
Blackburn have put together a couple of wins to get out of the relegation zone. They lost heavily at Stamford Bridge and will be without on-loan player Franco di Santo tonight.
Chelsea are at full-strength and I think Carlo Ancelotti will shuffle his troops a little bit as he did all season. Nonetheless the Blues are far to strong and will go through.
I tip Chelsea to win, at 1/2.
Manchester City vs Arsenal
English League Cup, 20h45
Manchester City lost just once in 16 games this season. But they've drawn their last 7 games in a row. They've received good news as Robinho and Micah Richards are match fit after long spells on the sidelines.
Arsenal have recorded 3 of their 4 losses away from home, as they will have to do without van Persie for the next five months. Eduardo will lead the attack for a wounded Arsenal, who just lost 0-3 at home to Chelsea.
The corresponding match from the league finished 4-2 for City.

I tip City to win, at 9/10.
