FC Bayern 2:1 Manchester United

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

FC Bayern vs Manchester United
Uefa Champions League, 20h45
The first fact that comes to my mind is that United have beaten Bayern just once in 7 European games and that was in the 98/99 season Final. Other than that, Michael Owen scored as many goals in Germany this season as tonight's host did, 3. And Owen is a substitute for United. Rooney is in a rich vein of form and he will try to keep the momentum going.
For the hosts Ribery and Robben will face late fitness tests. The Bavarians looked leaky in defense whenever they;ve played against important teams, but very expansive in attack.
I predict a high scoring game. Over 2 goals is valued at 7/10.

Gloria vs Ceahlaul
Romanian Liga I, 14h00
This game will be full with ambition, as both sides try to avoid relegation. Both teams were in the relegation zone in winter. Ceahlaul are still there but have managed some good displays, winning 3-1 at Steaua in the process.
Gloria have won 4 out of seven games losing just once. They have a new and very talented coach. I believe the home side will stroll to victory today.
I tip Gloria to win, at 6/11.
Fiorentina vs Udinese
Italian Serie A, 15h00
Udinese are a team with lots of talent. But they've changed many coaches and find themselves just above the relegation zone. Even though they are leading 4-3 in the last 7 games against the Viola, Udinese have managed to gain only 5 points away from home this season, not winning a single match in the process.
Fiorentina were in a mess themselves after Mutu's suspension in January. Since then they've lost a lot of games, even 5 in succesion and were thrown out of the UCL by FC Bayern. There is some tension between the owners and coach Prandelli, but the sheer quality they have in the squad will be good enough today.
I tip Fiorentina to win, at 7/10.

Astra vs Timisoara
Romanian Liga I, 16h00
Timisoara is fighting for the title and will try to give their best today. But their form away is bad. The guests have lost Bucur in January and have failed to find a replacement for their top goalscorer.
Astra have got very good results recently and especially at home. With coach Nicolo Napoli in charge they've beaten Rapid twice and Steaua also; before drawing against Dinamo.
I tip Astra not to lose, at 3/'5.
Cagliari 0:2 Lazio
Valencia 2:0 Almeria
Sampdoria 1:0 Juventus

Cagliari vs Lazio
Italian Serie Am 15h00
Cagliari are a very good team at Sant'Elia, having not lost in the last 11 games. Still they have only one point in the last 4 games and have lost the last game at home to Lazio. Cagliari have beaten Lazio only once in the last 10 between them.
Lazio have to concede they are in a big mess, having won only a point in the last 4 and standing just above the relegation zone. Lazio have won only once in the last ten games in Serie A.
I tip Cagliari to win, at 11/10.

Sampdoria vs Juventus
Italian Serie A, 20h45
Juventus have lost at Fulham 4-1 and failed to qualify further in the Europa League. The Bianconeri are just 1 point above Sampdoria in the standings. Sampdoria have won only one time in the last 17 games against Juventus, but the guests will have to cope with fatigue after Thursday's game.
Sampdoria have not lost at home for 22 games, which is big. Juventus has not lost at Marassi since 1995.
I tip Sampdoria to win, at 1/2.
Valencia vs Almeria
Spanish Primera Division, 19h00
Valencia take on Almeria after a thrilling game in the Europa League on Thursday; they've went through after a 4-4 draw at Bremen with David Villa in wonderful form. Even though last Sunday they were beaten soundly by Barcelona 3-0. Coach Emery has a lot of troubles in defence, but otherwise the attack will be at full thrust once again.
Almeria is in good form also having lost only to Sevilla since the new coach Lillo has arrived.
I tip Valencia to win, at 6/11.

Catania 3:1 Inter
Tottenham 3:1 Blackburn
Livorno 3:3 Roma

Friday, March 12, 2010

Livorno vs Roma
Italian Serie A, Sunday 15h00
Livorno has beaten Roma only once in the last 9 games, but it was the last time they played at Olimpico in autumn, 1-0. Still, they are now as low as 18th, while Roma are 3rd, having seen a remarkable sequence where they did not lose. summing up to 17 outings. Livorno has drawn at home to Juventus and Milan but have lost their last 4 games in Serie A.
Roma are trying to close the gap on Inter, while revenging for the defeat suffered at home in the reverse fixture. Roma has won 17 points from a losing position, which is the highest in Italy this season. Look for Totti, Toni and Vucinic to provide the attacking prowess.
I tip Roma to win, at 9/10.
Catania vs Inter
Italian Serie A, Saturday 20h45
Catania have a good sequence mostly at home where they are unbeaten for 5 games, in which they've won 3. They have only conceded one goal in the process. Since Mihajlovic took over, they climbed out of the relegation zone.
Inter have won the last 8 games against Catania, in which they always scored at least twice. But the Nerazzurri have drawn 4 of the last 5 domestic games. Mourinho has to have in mind that he plays Chelsea on Tuesday, in a match which means make or break for Inter's season.
I expect Inter to win, at evens.
Tottenham vs Blackburn
English Premier League, Saturday 13h45
Blackburn are a decent side. They will win most of their points at home this season and eventually save themselves. They have good quality in each part of the field. They gave Liverpool a good game at Anfield last time around, losing by 2-1.
Tottenham have all to play for. They eye a four place finish and are the favourites to do so taking in consideration the recent drops in form of Manchester City and Liverpool. But it will be very tough, because it is very important to play in the elite European competition. Look for the likes of Modric and Crouch to make the difference.
I predict a home win, at 1/2.

Sunday, March 07, 2010

Deportivo 3:1 Tenerife
Cagliari 2:2 Catania
Palermo 1:0 Livorno

Friday, March 05, 2010

Deportivo vs Tenerife
Spanish Primera Division, Saturday 18h00
Tenerife has lost 1-5 last week at home to Realmadrid and have lost 9 from 11 away games. They are in the relegation zone and concede lots of goals. I simply cannot see them escaping.
Deportivo are very strong at home. They are fighting for a European qualification spot. Deportivo has got some pedigree in the Uefa competitions, having enjoyed a Semifinal of the UCL in 2004, when beaten by Mourinho's Porto.
I tip Deportivo to win, at 3/4.
Cagliari vs Catania
Italian Serie A, Sunday 15h00
Catania has won three of the last 4 games versus Cagliari. Cagliari has lost the last 2 games in Serie A, which were away, but has won the last 2 at home against Bari and Parma. The Sards are in the Europa League zone of the table. Allegri was elected as the best coach in Italy last season.
Cagliari have not lost at home for 10 games, seven of those being wins. Catania have committed the most fouls in the Serie A, 576.
I tip Cagliari to win, at 11/10.
Palermo vs Livorno
Italian Serie A, Sunday 15h00
Palermo have beaten Livorno in the last 5 head-to-head games. The home team is 4th in the standings, while Livorno are 18th. Palermo has not lost at home for a year. With the new coach  Delio Rossi, Palermo has won 6 from 6 at home.
Fabrizio Miccoli has scored 3 times in the last 3 games, having summed 9 seasonal goals as he is the teams best goalscorer  Livorno has lost the last 3 consecutive matches. The home team's coach has not won in 4 games against his counterpart.
I tip Palermo to win, at 6/11.
